I started baking sourdough in 2014. This starter was created then and has been maintained into the robust, hardy backbone of my business. Each envelope comes with instructions on rehydration, feeding, long-term maintenance, and a copy of my Farmhouse Boule recipe!

A Sourdough Story

Welcome to Fire &amp; Breadstone! I'm Molly, and for as long as I can remember I have been cooking &amp; baking for my friends and family. I am passionate about creating food that is delicious, healthy, and appealing to all of the senses. My specialty is traditional sourdough bread created in small batches. I have dealt with food sensitivities for most of my life, which spurred my initial foray into sourdough back in 2014. I created a starter then, and it has accompanied me ever since. When I went through long stretches without a home base, I dehydrated a little starter and brought it with me (I'm a little crazy that way!). In 2022 my husband and I moved from Florida to Alaska. For the first time in my life I wasn't working a full-time job (previously I had been an insurance adjuster for catastrophes, traveling in leaps and bounds across the lower 48 to chase hurricanes and floods and disasters as they frequently cropped up). My life, which had been uprooted and chaotic before getting married, finally had some stability. It was wonderful to have some time off to regroup - but I cannot stand still for long to save my life, so after a few months I was looking for a new project to pour into. I was baking sourdough on a weekly basis for our own consumption, and decided to start advertising some extra loaves here and there - so Fire &amp; Breadstone was born.

Dehydrated Sourdough Starter

Is it a poptart? A toaster strudel? A hand pie?? All I know is that it's delicious: flaky sourdough crust wrapped lovingly around a jam center and glazed with thick vanilla icing. Please select from available flavors: marionberry, lemon curd, wild blueberry

Sourdough Poptarts

Khamut Khorasan wheat is an ancient grain, similar to spelt or einkorn. This loaf is created with the ultimate digestibility in mind: the khorasan is sprouted, dried, and ground fresh for each batch. The flour is then cooked in hot water (this helps break down the starches &amp; adds extra moisture), cooled, and mixed into dough. It ferments for 18-20 hours before finally being shaped &amp; baked. The result is a soft, sour, complex loaf that is delicious by itself or accompanies hearty dishes beautifully.

Sprouted Khamut Khorasan Wheat

The original loaf that started it all! There are always only 4 ingredients: sourdough starter, water, flour, and salt. It is then fermented for up to 18 hours before baking into a crispy, chewy, deliciously sour round loaf.

Farmhouse Boule

A similar loaf to the Farmhouse Boule, but made with 100% unifine spelt flour. As an ancient grain it contains less gluten than regular wheat or all-purpose flour, and is slightly higher in fiber &amp; protein. It has a slightly nutty, robust flavor in comparison, and (as always) contains all the fermented sourdough goodness we know and love.
