About the Baker

Hi! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Hannah, usually referred to as “mama”, as I am a stay at home mom to 5 beautiful kiddos. My husband and I moved from the Midwest to the Tampa Bay Area 7 years ago &amp; have loved making it our home. A few things about me: I love learning new skills, I’m a perfectionist and I love good food. Well, those 3 things really go together well to make custom cookies! I started making cookies for my children’s birthday parties, and loved each chance I got to develop the skill. I finally started selling them to friends at the end of last year before opening up Summer Kate Cookie Co in early 2024. The name comes from my two daughters (Sarah Kate &amp; Summer), who are always excited to helpme bake and learn from me. I have truly enjoyed getting to be a part of so many special occasions, and hope that I can make your next special event or gathering even more memorable with a delicious cookie.

Hi friends! I'm Tricia, the baker behind Fat Daddy...a mama of 9 living on a farm in Central Florida. Welcome to our farm kitchen! If it smells good in here, it's probably a tray of our NYC style cookies made with milk from our cow bettie and eggs from our flock, baked up with lots of care and attention to flavors and ingredients. I dream up new cookie flavors all the time and I can't wait for you to try them. If you have failed at creating a starter, keeping a starter or getting a good rise for your sourdough bread, YOU NEED THIS STARTER!&nbsp;&nbsp; I have always loved history and when I got the opportunity to become a keeper of this amazing historic sourdough starter that can be traced back to a family that traveled The Oregon Trail, I jumped at the chance and she became the backbone of our farm’s sourdough bakery.&nbsp;&nbsp;We have made thousands of loaves and baked goods with her and she never disappoints.&nbsp;&nbsp;Because rehydrating a sourdough starter is where many people fail, we don’t ship her dehydrated.&nbsp;&nbsp;She comes live, fresh and ready to be fed!&nbsp;&nbsp;We want you to be successful and we know with Ophelia… you will!&nbsp; Includes two double-sided 5.5 X 8.5 cards:+ her Historic Story&nbsp;+ Active Starter Guide&nbsp;+ Our personal recipe&nbsp;+ Trouble Shooting Guide&nbsp;<img src="//:0">Here is her story:&nbsp; The Wild Yeast BornWhen the WestWas Young! Ophelia’s history: her beginning started west in 1847 from Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The family of Dr. John Savage as one of his daughters (my great grandmother) was the cook. It came on west and settled near Salem Oregon.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doc. Savage’s daughter met and married my great grand father on the trail and they had 10 children. It was passed on to me through my parents when they passed away. I am 76 years old so that was some time ago. I first learned to use the starter in a basque sheep camp when I was 10 years old as we were setting up a homestead on the Steens Mountains in southeastern Oregon. A campfire has no oven, so the bread was baked in a Dutch Oven in a hole in the ground in which we had built a fire, placed the oven, scraped in the coals from around the rim, and covered with dirt for several hours. I used it later making bread in a chuck wagon on several cattle drives again in southeastern Oregon. Considering that the people at that time had no commercial starter for their bread, I do not know when it was first caught from the wild or where, but it has been exposed to many wild yeasts since and personally I like it. I hope you enjoy it. <ul><li>Carl Griffith (passed at in the year 2000 at the age of 80).&nbsp;&nbsp;Carl’s family had kept the starter going from at least 1847 in Burns, Oregon. It could well be older than that but he didn’t have any information about it prior to the Oregon Trail trek. Carl moved to Washington state as an adult while keeping the starter going and that is where he last lived.</li></ul> This starter has been kept alive from keeper to keeper through a society that started in the early days of the internet on Usenet in the 90s.
