How Did We Get Here?

Eats by Nae began with a passionate child who spent many summers and after school days with her mother and grandmother in the kitchen. A self taught baker from Dayton, OH, an enthusiastic Jenae was always inspired by her love for cooking, but baking seemed to catch her attention. From making sure every Christmas there were fresh baked cookies for Santa, to the holiday desserts that were prepared every Thanksgiving, and looking forward to each birthday, where a homemade cake was always provided for each year. Store-bought cakes were a sin in her household for these occasions. As she got older, she began to get her own hands in creating these sweet treats, even becoming known in middle and high school, where she attended Stivers School for the Arts, for surprising her friends for birthdays, or random occasions, with cupcakes and cakes. She even baked and decorated her own high school graduation cake. In college at Wright State University, she began getting requests for cakes in exchange for small favors, as most broke college students did in terms of a side hustle. This created her drive to someday create a business platform from many friends and family who asked, "why aren't you selling your cakes?" After years of figuring out that her days in college weren't fulfilling her, she decided to take a few culinary courses at Sinclair Community College to get some basic foundations of food safety and science. There she obtained her ServSafe Food Handler certification, as well as Hospitality and Reception Specialist certification. During the 2020 pandemic, unable to work as she was now taking care of her child, who was forced to remote learning, she decided to use her time to brush up on her skills in the kitchen. Offering small treats for porch pick ups and a few pandemic style curbside deliveries, her business began to expand and her name was finally getting out there. Jumping on a leap of faith, she applied for her LLC in summer of 2020, legitimizing her business as, Eats by Nae. Orders were beginning to pick up as outside began to open up more and more, giving her the confidence that this was going to grow into something bigger. In 2021, business began to slow down a bit, as people were struggling to get employment, and the world was still navigating through the complications of COVID-19, Jenae ended up needing to find full time employment to make up for the loss of income. There, her clientele began growing again, gaining events such as baby showers, birthdays, and other small get togethers. With growing interest came her introduction to pop up events around the city of Dayton, introducing her to the world of vegan baking. Today, Eats by Nae has become a growing brand, offering a variety of options for various dietary needs and expanding more and more through practice and patience. She is inspired by her son, the Jr. Baker in Charge, and the friends and family who have supported her along the way.
