Crafted with love in our Kingsport, TN kitchen, this rendition of a classic loaf boasts a hearty texture and a sweet, earthy flavor. Rediscover bread with our Anadama, perfect for toasting or as an accompaniment to your favorite jelly or jam! Anadama Bread has it all — regional origins, amazing taste, and an interesting back story. The name “Anadama Bread” first appeared in print in 1915, but it was undoubtedly baked in many New England hearths before then. What distinguishes Anadama from other breads is the inclusion of cornmeal and molasses. Both were common ingredients in Northeast cooking, but they truly shine in this bread. So what does “Anadama” mean? Local legend overwhelmingly credits a Gloucester fisherman with coining the term as a not-so-loving tribute to his wife, Anna. It seems Anna wasn’t blessed with talent in the kitchen, and after numerous bowls of molasses and cornmeal porridge for supper, the fisherman angrily tossed in some flour and yeast one evening and threw the mixture into the oven. From workshop attendees:*Treasure's workshop went absolutely above and beyond: we each got to score and a bake a loaf that had been pre-proofed, we created our own loaves to take home and bake the next day, we fed our new starter babies, inheriting a rich and nostalgic history with it. Each of us got to get hands on experience with every single step of the process. I was amazed at Treasure's patience, expertise and grace as she navigated this juggling act - the sourdough process is a 48 hour journey and Treasure was able to walk us through every step in just over 3 hours.
